The Great Taipei Gas Corporation, established in 1964, is responsible for providing natural gas supplies to the city of Taipei, and currently has over 400,000 customers. The business area covers the Song-Shan, Sin-Yi, Da-An, Da-Tong, Wan-Hua, Zhong-Zheng and Zhong-Shan districts, plus 2 counties, Fu-Hua and Min-Shen, from the Shi-Lin district. |
In recent years, to comply with the overall development plans for Taipei, ensuring public safety, and delivering a high standard of living comfort, Taipei gas has continuously sought out and introduced new techniques/equipments from Europe, America and Japan. While actively investing to improve public safety and expanding gas supply/storage facilities, it also signed a technical exchange agreement with Osaka Gas (Japan) in an effort to raise construction quality and promote Japan-Taiwan cooperation within the natural gas industry. |
The Taipei Gas office building incorporates a gas co-generation system, making it the first office building powered by natural gas within the country. The SCADA system (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System), which links 33 earthquake detectors within 10 designated gas supply zones, enables 24hr supervision on gas pressure, gas flow, gas leakage and access control for all regulator stations. When an earthquake over magnitude 6 occurs, abnormal emergency shutoff of valves, or in cases of any other operational irregularities, signal feedback will be sent to the Nei-Hu base control center and can be rectified in a timely manner. In a large scale earthquake scenario, gas supplies can be swiftly shutoff, either automatically or remotely, therefore reducing the risks of secondary disasters and ensuring public safety. |
To achieve operational diversification, Taipei gas utilized German optical fiber technology, spreading then within existing gas pipelines, accomplishing a combined 97km backbone network. Taipei Gas is the first approved company to obtain the special permit of the first category rental license from the Directorate General of Telecommunications, Ministry of Transportation and Communications among the domestic gas utilities. |
In 2003, Taipei Gas successfully integrated the [Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series] into its business operation, and became the first gas utility to obtain the OHSAS 18001 certification, Since April 2010, Taipei Gas has also been registered at the national Council of Labor Affairs, as an OHSAS 18001 and TOSHMS certified business. 2012 marked yet another milestone, as Taipei Gas became ISO 9001 certified, and in 2013, passed the national CNS15506 standard certification for ISO 9001/OHSAS 18001/TOSHMS. |
In addition, through the issuance of the Corporate Sustainability Report (CSR), the company will continue to operate and fulfill its corporate social responsibilities. In response to the trend of greenhouse gas management and reduction, the oil and gas industry actively promotes low-carbon emission industrial technologies, carbon reduction, reduction of process carbon emissions, and corporate transformation to turn risks into business opportunities and move towards the goal of net zero carbon emissions in 2050. Under this trend, hydrogen energy is gradually becoming a project promoted by foreign companies or governments. As an energy supplier, we continue to pay attention to the development of hydrogen energy and green energy at home and abroad, and look forward to exploring business opportunities with growth potential in low-carbon industries in the future. |
To elevate operational performance, serve customers, benefit citizens, Taipei Gas, in future, will actively promote the diversified use of non-polluting gas energy, and by cooperating with the broadband internet industry, create new business opportunities.
